A 23-year-old male suspect has been arrested after officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force found a firearm and ammunition on him.

Police reports indicate, at around 7:53 p.m. yesterday (May 10th), officers from the Grand Turk Police Station received numerous calls that an armed man was in the Overback area, in the vicinity of Annette’s  Restaurant, brandishing and discharging a fireman.

Officers arrived and quickly apprehended the suspect.  While searching the suspect, officers recovered a firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of  Ammunition and Discharging a Firearm and is expected to be charged later this week.

Following the arrest, Superintendent of Community Policing and Divisions Dwight Gardiner said: “I will like to give credit to the RTCIPF management team on Grand Turk and the officers on the frontline that risk their lives to keep the island of  Grand Turk safe. The officers involved in the arrest and recovery of the illegal firearm and ammunition displayed great courage in the execution of their duties and I will like to commend them for a job well done. By removing this firearm from the street they potentially saved another life and possibly other victims. The work of the RTCIPF officers requires continuous vigilance during the execution of their duties and the RTCIPF will not relent in pursuing and bringing to justice persons engaged in crime”.
