The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RT&CIPF) has arrested a male driver following a serious motor vehicle collision during the early hours of this morning along Leeward Highway, Providenciales.
Shortly after midnight, officers responded to the report of a single-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Suzuki Swift facing east atop the Beaches Roundabout sign.
The vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage, and the engine block was found dislodged and lying on the ground. The driver’s door was open, but no driver was immediately visible at the scene. Officers began questioning bystanders, but no one identified themselves as the driver.
During the search of the immediate area, officers observed a dark-skinned male wearing a white T-shirt who had visible blood stains on his shirt. When questioned, the male admitted to being the driver of the vehicle.
He was informed of a mandatory roadside breathalyzer test. The test was administered, and the driver registered a breath alcohol level three times over the legal limit.
As a result, the driver was arrested and cautioned for Driving with Alcohol Concentration Above the Prescribed Limit. He was transported to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, where he was examined by medical personnel.
The RT&CIPF remains committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and reminds the public of the dangers and legal consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol.
