A 48-year-old man is expected to appear before a South Caicos Magistrate on charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
The accused, DAVID CLYDE WILLIAMS, of South Caicos, was charged on October 07th, 2023.
The charges against Mr. Williams followed an incident that occurred around 1:24 p.m. on October 06th, 2023, whilst a police officer was executing a Bench Warrant.
The officer was medically examined and discharged.
Mr. Williams is due to appear in Court on October 24th.
Superintendent of Police (Divisions and Community Policing) Dwight Gardiner said the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force view seriously any attack on its officers and is warning the public that it is unlawful to prevent officers from carrying out their duties, and anyone who does so will be charged.
“The incident is regrettable. Any person who harms any Police Officer in the execution of their duty will be dealt with swiftly within the fullest extent of the law. The RT&CIPF will not tolerate individuals who are disrespectful or obstruct officers from executing their duties,
“I wish to extend my sincerest thanks to the officer for remaining professional in the face of the incident.”.
