Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force continues to conduct Covid-19 compliance checks across the Turks and Caicos Islands to ensure that everyone abides by the Public and Environmental Health (Covid-19) (Control Measures) (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 2021.
For the week of January 25th, to January 30th, 2021, Officers on the Island of Grand Turk issued a $5000.00 citation to a restaurant located on Church Folly for remaining open past the permitted hour of business operation.
In a second report, Police were dispatched to a private gathering at a home located in the West Road district and a $250.00 ticket was issued to a home-owner for breaching Section (7) of the Regulations. Additionally, one private citizen was also issued a $250.00 citation for breaching curfew.
For the Island of Providenciales, the week of January 25th, to January 30th, 2021 a total of fifteen $250.00 tickets were issued for curfew breaches.
On Saturday, January 30th, 2021 Officers responded to a home in Juba Sound, Providenciales around 6:40 p.m., following reports of a house party. As a result, a number of persons were issued with a fixed penalty ticket of $250.00 for breaching Section (7) of the Regulations. This incident remains under active investigation and others involved may be the subject of further Police action. Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting said “These are challenging times for the Turks and Caicos Islands due to the impact of COVID-19 and the subsequent Regulations. However, the health of our communities is a priority and Officers will not hesitate to take enforcement action against persons who appear to be in breach of the Regulations. The public is reminded that under section 7(1) of the Public and Environmental Health (Covid-19) (Control Measures) (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 2021, public gathering and social activities are prohibited. Let us continue to work together to eliminate COVID-19”.
