Following a thorough investigation by Officers of the Serious Crimes Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF), 23-year-old Jamasly Destine and 26-year-old Wilkenson Beaute have been formally charged.
Both men received charges for the Offences of Murder, Attempted Murder, Discharging Firearm, Carrying Firearm, Carrying Ammunition and Wounding in connection to the Murder and shooting incident that took place at the Providenciales Landfill (Dumpsite) on April 18th, 2020, which left one man dead and another seriously injured. The identity of the deceased is still unknown.
The two men were taken into custody after an early morning raid by the RTCIPF Tactical Unit Officers early Tuesday, November 3rd and Wednesday, November 4th.
Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting paid tribute to the detectives who worked diligently on this investigation and to members of the public who have assisted officers in their investigations.
Commissioner Botting said, “This investigation has been challenging from the outset and the victim has yet to be identified. The officers from the RTCIPF Serious Crimes team have worked relentlessly to identify those responsible for this terrible act. The charging of the two men is a culmination of hard-nosed policing and a commitment to get justice for a victim who does not have a voice or a family to fight for justice for him. I want to publicly thank my officers for their professional and dedicated work during this investigation.”
Both men who remain in police custody are scheduled to appear in Court on November 6th, 2020.
